Media Engagement Forum 2018

Vision : A World Class, fair and competitive regulatory environment with universal communications services throughout Zimbabwe by 2020

On the 19th of January 2018, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) hosted a media engagement forum at Kadoma Hotel and Conference Centre. In attendance were 58 participants, comprising of 39 journalists from various media houses, as well as officials from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) as well as POTRAZ. The media engagement workshop was part of POTRAZ`s initiatives to reach out, engage and enlighten valued stakeholders on our mandate and operations. The forum was birthed from the realisation of information asymmetries between POTRAZ and the media, who are important stakeholders in the ICT sector.

The aim of the workshop was to educate the media fraternity on the Authority`s operations as well as enlighten them on key projects being undertaken in order to ensure that only factual information is released in the media and to remove any misconceptions that the media had about POTRAZ. The mandate and operations of the Authority were unveiled through presentations from the divisions within POTRAZ i.e. Legal Services, Economics, Tariffs and Competition, Postal Services, Technical Services as well as the Universal Services Fund. The media engagement forum unleashed a new era of transparency between the regulator and the media. The Director General of POTRAZ, Dr. G.K. Machengete urged members of the media to directly approach POTRAZ offices whenever they want issues clarified so that their news reports are well informed.
